Write & Pitch Your Story

The Ghana Times Logo

The Ghana Times is currently accepting pitches for our youth-led news website, with a focus on underreported stories related to gender, technology, and climate change and more in Africa especially Ghana.  Story ideas that present an intersection of these areas are highly recommended.

What we are looking for

We are looking for engaging and informative articles that offer a fresh perspective on issues in the listed areas that do not receive enough attention in the mainstream media. Our goal is to provide a platform for young writers to share their stories, ideas and opinions, and to encourage critical thinking and activism.

Your pitch should include a clear and concise summary of your proposed article, including the main idea, sources and potential angle.

We prefer articles between 500 and 1000 words, but longer articles will be considered if they are well-researched and thoughtfully written.

As a tip, the best pitches are those that respond to critical questions in these areas from unexpected angles. Basically, surprise us. Answering the following questions should guide you:

  1. Why are you telling this story now?
  2. What bold angle will be surprising for readers?
  3. How can you make the story interesting to read or which direction is most exciting/revealing?
  4. Why are you the right person to tell this story?

For already written articles, they should come in a clear and engaging style that appeals to our target audience of young readers.

We encourage the use of multimedia content such as images, videos, and infographics to enhance the experience of our readers. All articles must be original and not previously published elsewhere.

Our Commitment

We welcome writers from all backgrounds and experiences, and we are committed to publishing a diverse range of voices and perspectives. While this is our commitment, we encourage younger and emerging writers to take advantage of this opportunity.

Once your pitch is accepted, you will be assigned an editor who will work with you throughout the writing process to ensure that your article meets our editorial standards and guidelines.

Compensation

We offer a competitive stipend for accepted pitches.  Our editorial guidelines and friendly team ensure that our contributors receive proper editorial support and guidance throughout the writing process.

If you have an idea for an article that fits our niche and purpose, please send us your pitch at theghanatimes@gmail.com with the subject line “Pitch.”
