Kofi Nti and Ofori Amponsah received compensation from Tyler Perry for using their song “Odo Nwom” in his Sistas TV series after legal negotiations.
Ghanaian musician Kofi Nti has revealed that he and fellow artist Ofori Amponsah have been compensated by Tyler Perry for the use of their song “Odo Nwom” in the popular American television series Tyler Perry’s Sistas.
“Odo Nwom,” a hit track released by the duo in 2010, was featured in a behind-the-scenes video shared by Tyler Perry in June 2024. The video sparked concern among some Ghanaian music enthusiasts, who suspected potential copyright infringement.
In an interview with Onua TV, Kofi Nti confirmed that they had reached a settlement with Tyler Perry after their legal team in the United Kingdom intervened. Lawyers representing the musicians contacted Tyler Perry’s team, leading to negotiations and an amicable resolution.
“I did that song with Ofori Amponsah. We have a lawyer in the UK who contacted the team, and after negotiations, everything went smoothly. The issue has been resolved, and some compensation was involved,” Kofi Nti shared.
Kofi Nti and Ofori Amponsah are celebrated for their collaborations on multiple hit tracks, including Atwetaan, Bra, Wake Up, and Monica. Their recent success in securing compensation for the use of their song in Sistas adds to their legacy in Ghanaian music.
