Telcos That Fail Quality Standards Will Be Fined — The Minister-designate for Communications, Digitalisation, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has issued a stern warning to Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) that those who do not meet the required service quality standards will face financial penalties.
During his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Mr. George reaffirmed his commitment to holding telecom providers accountable while ensuring that Ghanaians receive reliable and efficient mobile services.
“I will not be a minister who’ll be afraid to impose a fine when MNOs fail to provide the quality of services required, as well as we support them in doing so,” he stated.
While acknowledging the government‘s role in supporting MNOs to enhance their infrastructure, he made it clear that subpar service delivery would not go unpunished. His stance signals a push for stricter regulation in Ghana‘s telecom sector, with a focus on improving connectivity and customer experience.
Mr. George also emphasized his vision of fostering an environment that encourages technological advancement and innovation in the country’s digital economy.
His remarks come at a time when consumer complaints over network quality and data services continue to rise, putting pressure on regulators to enforce industry standards.
