Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif has admitted to facing “challenges with regards to payments” necessary for completing the Youth Resource Centres under construction.
Out of the 10 planned projects, only the Koforidua Multi-purpose Centre has been commissioned.
Some centres are close to completion, while work has stalled at other venues.
“I admit we’ve had challenges with regards to payments but because the contractors haven’t handed over the facilities, we can’t use them,” Ussif told the media during a briefing.
“We are actively trying to pay for the certifications so that Azumah Nelson, Navrongo, and Nhyinahin may return to work.
“I can tell you that all contractors will be paid and will shortly return to work. “Work on Navrongo, Yendi, and Accra phase 2 will begin soon.”
The initiative to build 10 multi-purpose Youth Resource Centres around the country began in 2018 under then-Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah.
They were part of the government’s efforts to solve the country’s sporting infrastructure deficit.
