President John Dramani Mahama has set up a seven-member planning committee to steer a National Economic Dialogue.
This initiative is a major component of his reset agenda to transform the country’s economy.
The National Economic Dialogue was an integral promise in his 120-day social contract with Ghanaians ahead of the 2024 General Elections. Then-candidate Mahama promised to hold a national dialogue on Ghana‘s economy to chart a new path for transformative growth.
To fulfill this promise, the president, after three weeks in office has established a high-powered committee with expertise from energy, economy, agriculture, finance, and among others. Their mandate is to plan a dialogue that will lead to the development of a national blueprint that will propel Ghana into a resilient, high-growth economy.
Chaired by the distinguished economist, Dr. Ishmael Yankson, other committee members include Dr. K. Y. Amoako, Prof. John Gatsi, Mohammed Samara, Nelly Mireku, Anthony Sarpong, and Ernest De-Graft Egyir.
President Mahama‘s aims are that the dialogue will “communicate the true state of Ghana’s economy, develop a homegrown fiscal consolidation program, and highlight key structural reforms and policy priorities essential for resetting the economy.”
A statement issued and signed by the Acting Spokesperson to the President, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, noted the committee has been tasked to deliver results within four weeks, focusing on agenda setting, logistics management, and coordination of top-tier panelists.
