Otto Addo tells Andre Ayew to get a club and score 20 goals before he will be considered and invited the Black Stars

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has outlined specific conditions under which team captain Andre Ayew could earn a recall to the national team.

The 34-year-old forward, who is currently unattached after his contract with French club Le Havre expired, has not been included in the squad for the past two international breaks.

Addo, the former Borussia Dortmund talent coach, has made it clear that Ayew must sign with a new club and demonstrate exceptional performance, including scoring 20 goals, to be considered for a return to the Black Stars.

During the announcement of the 23-man squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger, Addo addressed the ongoing speculation about Ayew’s absence.

“Andre Ayew is a good player, but at the moment, he is not here. He doesn’t have a club, but nobody knows the future,” Addo stated. “If he gets a club and performs and scores 20 goals, maybe he can return because we are building something for the future.”

This stance underscores Addo’s focus on developing a squad for the future, as Ghana prepares for crucial AFCON qualifiers.

The Black Stars will face Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5, followed by a match against Niger in Morocco on September 9.

These qualifiers are vital for Ghana’s ambitions to secure a spot in the 2025 AFCON, with the top two teams from each group earning automatic qualification.
