Information Minister Confident Black Princesses Will Advance Beyond U20 World Cup Group Stage

Ghana’s Minister of Information, Fatimatu Abubakar, is confident that the country’s under-20 women’s national football team, known as the Black Princesses, will finally break through to the knockout stages of the 2024 World Cup.

This will be their seventh consecutive appearance at the tournament, but they have yet to progress beyond the group stage in their previous six attempts.

This time, they are in Group E with New Zealand, Japan, and Austria, and Coach Yusif Basigi is hoping to lead them to a historic victory.

Ghana’s Under-20 women’s national team, known as the Black Princesses, has struggled in recent FIFA Women’s World Cups. In the 2018 tournament, they achieved a single victory against New Zealand, finishing third in their group behind France and the Netherlands. However, in the 2022 edition, the team faced a disappointing outcome, losing all their group matches and placing last.

Despite these past challenges, the team is heading to Colombia for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup this month. Abubakar, in a message of support to the team, expressed his hopes for their success.

“I am confident that for the seventh time, we will advance past the group stages and also bring the trophy home.
