The second sitting of Parliament’s Appointment Committee on Monday, January 20, 2025, was overshadowed by disagreements and interruptions.
The vetting process, scheduled to review Roads and Highways Minister-designate Kwame Governs Agbodza, faced delays as committee members exchanged interjections and raised preliminary concerns.
Effutu MP and Ranking Member Alexander Afenyo-Markin questioned the absence of a Cabinet Secretary, sparking a response from Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga. Ayariga suggested that Afenyo-Markin raise his concerns through other channels, emphasizing that the committee’s focus should remain on vetting ministerial nominees.
This prompted an objection from Minority Chief Whip and Nsawam Adoagyiri MP, Francis Annoh-Dompreh, who took issue with Ayariga’s remarks.
In an effort to maintain order and prioritize the vetting process, Committee Chairman and Akatsi South MP Bernard Ahiafor intervened, discouraging further interruptions to save time for the proceedings.
