Defected NPP member urges Wassa Amenfi West residents to vote for NDC

The 2020 NPP parliamentary candidate for Wassa Amenfi West Kofi Asante, has strongly criticized his party, labeling their promises as “fake and lies” when it comes to development in the area.

He believes the NPP has failed to deliver and lacks a genuine interest in improving the constituency.

Instead, he thinks the NDC is the only party with a genuine desire to drive development in the constituency. This harsh assessment led Asante to defect from the NPP to the NDC.

Addressing a gathering of NDC supporters at Nkwanta Kesse in the Wassa Amenfi West Constituency of the Western Region he said, “I previously contested in the polls on the NPP ticket, but today I’m speaking to you about the truth regarding the NDC, as your vote can bring about the development we’ve been yearning for.

In 2020, we presented our community’s challenges to President Nana Addo, and he assured us that our roads connecting smaller communities would be constructed. Contractors were even brought to the site, but unfortunately, they abandoned the projects after the elections. This experience has led me to realize that the NDC is genuinely committed to our development.”

After losing the 2020 elections, he said he decided to do a follow up on the various promises made by President Akufo-Addo and what he realized were shocking

“My fellow citizens, I have some disturbing news to share. I’ve discovered that our three constituencies have been removed from the priority list for development projects.”

“This means we’ll be left out of the progress and growth that’s coming to other areas in the years ahead. If you’re still planning to vote for the NPP after hearing this, I urge you to reconsider and think about what’s best for our community”.

“It’s disappointing to see our constituencies overlooked, especially when you consider the promises made by the current government. President Akufo-Addo has touted the completion of numerous road projects across the country, with 11,975.96km of roads, 33 bridges, and 6 interchanges constructed between 2017 and 2022.

However, it seems our area isn’t a priority. The NDC, on the other hand, has pledged to complete abandoned projects and bring development to our region. Let’s make an informed decision about our future.” He said during the party’s National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia’s campaign tour.

Addressing what caused his decision to defect from NPP to NDC, Kofi Asante said that “during former President Jerry John Rawlings’ time, the government listened to their requests, such as improving roads and electricity in the area.

Asante expressed his desire to join forces with Eric Afful the incumbent member of Parliament and NDCs parliamentary candidate to bring the needed development to the area, which he feels the NPP has neglected.”
