Asiedu Nketia directs NDC MPs to boycott any emergency recall of Parliament

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has directed the party’s members of Parliament to boycott any emergency recall of the House.

He says NDC is committed to protect Ghana’s democracy and its institutions, thus the party won’t permit a select few to compromise the country’s democratic foundations and pledged to take all necessary steps to safeguard them.

During his campaign at Asasetre in the Ellembelle constituency of the Western Region, Mr Nketia, emphasised the crucial role of Parliament in Ghana’s democracy.

He stressed that Parliament is the backbone of Ghana’s democratic system, and without it, democracy would be nonexistent urging Ghanaians to stand and defend Parliament, warning that if the institution weakens, Ghana’s democracy will be doomed.

“A robust democracy cannot exist without parliament’s active involvement. Ignoring or weakening Parliament would undermine democratic governance, allowing authoritarianism to flourish. We must rally behind Parliament, as it embodies the will of the people and ensures power isn’t concentrated in one person’s hands.”

“A strong Parliament is essential for a healthy democracy, preventing any one individual from deciding the country’s future. We’ve fought for Parliament and democracy, and we must continue to uphold these principles today and tomorrow.” He reaffirmed his position.

He instructed the NDC members of Parliament to boycott any emergency recall.

“The current situation in Parliament with judges warning of a potential collapsing of government business if Parliament doesn’t convene, no government business will collapse. Amidst this uncertainty, I’m advising NDC members of Parliament to boycott any emergency recall.”

On the other hand, Asiedu Nketia is rallying party supporters and sympathizers to vote overwhelmingly for the current NDC leadership.

“As we head to the polls, let’s demonstrate our commitment to Ghana’s democracy by voting overwhelmingly for our NDC leadership and parliamentary candidates.”

“This will enable us to have more NDC representatives in Parliament, fostering a stronger presence for our party. By doing so, we’ll be contributing to a more robust democratic process in Ghana.”
