Angola 1-1 Ghana: Black Stars players rated

The Black Stars have kissed a place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations goodbye after recording a 1-1 draw with Angola in Luanda on Friday evening.

Ghana will now miss the AFCON for the first time since 2004, after making the competition for 10 consecutive editions.

Jordan Ayew’s brilliant free-kick was cancelled out by a powerful header from substitute Zini in the second half.

Here’s how the players were rated.

Abdul Manaf Nurudeen-7

Otto Addo made a bold move by starting Abdul Manaf Nurudeen over Lawrence Ati-Zigi, who has become Ghana’s starter in the last two years. But it paid off in the first half as the man from Eupen made a big save. He was not at fault for the equalizer.

Kingsley Schindler-5

Schindler had a rather average game, not making big mistakes and neither was he available to make big clearances.

Razak Simpson-6

The man from Nations FC was given his first-ever start in his first-ever call-up for the Black Stars and generally made a good account of himself, making huge clearances and interceptions.

Alidu Seidu-5.5

Also a generally average game for Seidu as he sometimes struggled to deal with the constant attacks from the Angolan team.

Gideon Mensah-4.5

The Auxerre left back was largely at fault for Angola’s penalty in the first half and struggled to deal with his man for the most part.

Ibrahim Sulemana-5

Sulemana was caught out of position a few times as Angolan players ran rings around him. The midfielder struggled to assert himself.

Elisha Owusu-5

Elisha had a similar problem to his midfield partner. He did try to make some interceptions but was mostly dominated by Angola’s passing.

Mohammed Kudus-5

An uncharacteristically quiet game for one of Ghana’s most important players. Not much was working for him.

Michael Baidoo-5

It was also a quiet game for the Elfsborg man. Not much of a surprise as it is his first start at a tough ground.

Fatawu Issahaku-5.5

It was a shame that Issahaku had to go off injured at the end of the first half as he was a livewire for the Black Stars, showing little fear as he ran at his opponents when he got the chance.

Jordan Ayew-7

The captain led by example in the first half with a brilliant free-kick to give Ghana the lead. He drew as many fouls as possible as Ghana sought to maintain possession.

Ebenezer Annan-4

A passenger after coming on for Abdul Fatawu Issahaku. Did not do much to impact the game.

Ransford-Yeboah- 4

Had a great opportunity to score late on but fluffed his lines. Should have done better.

Osman Bukari- N/A

NB: Players who came on after the 80th minute did not get a rating.
