Alleged angry NDC members raid EC office in Takoradi

Some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Efia Constituency of the Western Region have stormed the Takoradi office of the Electoral Commission to cause mayhem.

An eyewitness indicates that the angry mob broke the glass door of the office but were unable to enter.

“We were here when we saw many members of the NDC coming, they looked angry and were shouting’ no Majeed, no peace’. They initially broke the glass door of the Electoral Commission office, but they were unable to enter. Fortunately, there was no officer at the office when they came”, Edward Amoah, a worker at the premises indicated.

Pictures available shows how some properties of the Commission have been destroyed.

It took the intervention of some personnel from the Ghana Police Service to sack the angry crowd from the premises.

“The police were swift, some officers quickly came to get them out of the premises, but they are still around. More supporters keep coming but officers are still around”, he added.

The Efia Constituency parliamentary election was tightly contested.

Lawyer Yaw Boamah Nyarko of the New Patriotic Party had 15, 870 votes while Abdul-Majeed Iddrisu Nassam Dokurugu of the National Democratic Congress garnered 13, 892.

The NDC has contested the parliamentary result citing irregularities in collation. Their candidate has since refused to sign the pink sheet.

However, the Electoral Commission has gone ahead to declare the NPP candidate as the winner.
