Alexander Afenyo-Markin Appointed Minority Leader for Ghanas 9th Parliament

Alexander Afenyo-Markin Appointed Minority Leader for Ghanas 9th Parliament – Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Member of Parliament for Effutu, has been appointed as the Minority Leader for Ghana’s 9th Parliament. This leadership role comes as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) transitions into the Minority in Parliament following the conclusion of the 8th Parliamentary session.

Afenyo-Markin previously served as the Majority Leader during the 8th Parliament and is known for his strategic leadership and commitment to parliamentary duties. Supporting him in this new position is Patricia Appiagyei, the MP for Asokwa, who will serve as the Deputy Minority Leader.

Frank Annoh-Dompreh, MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, retains his role as the Chief Whip, while Habib Iddrisu of Tolon and Davis Opoku Ansah of Mpraeso have been named First and Second Deputy Whips, respectively.

In a statement following his appointment, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin pledged to work diligently and foster unity among the Minority Caucus, emphasizing the need for effective collaboration to address key national issues.

The 8th Parliament is set to dissolve on January 6, 2025, with the 9th Parliament officially commencing on January 7, 2025. Afenyo-Markin’s appointment marks a new chapter for the NPP as they adjust to their role in opposition.
