Coach Ibrahim Tanko’s side has been struggling in this season’s campaign, picking only one win from the last twelve, and the uninspiring performances have resulted in last season’s title contender battling for survival in this campaign.
Accra Lions have switched their home venue from the nation’s capital—University of Ghana Stadium—to Sogakope, hoping the WAFA Park will change their fortunes to move out of the relegation before the end of the first round.
The technical team of Accra Lions has been told by the club’s top hierarchy to end their winless streak against Nations FC this weekend to save their jobs.
According to Ibrahim Tanko in an interview ahead of the fixture, he stressed that his side will be drawing inspiration from their 6-0 victory over Agbozume Weavers in the FA Cup to end their winless jinx in the Premier League.
However, Nations FC is eager to deepen the woes of Accra Lions with a victory to bounce back to winning ways after suffering their first-ever home defeat in the Premier League to Berekum Chelsea in matchday 12.
The Eagles lads had recorded victories in their last four matches until coach Samuel Boadu led Chelsea to set the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex ablaze with a 1-0 win.
Nations FC will be capitalizing on their supremacy in their last two meetings with Accra Lions to record a positive result at the WAFA Park in Sogakope. They secured back-to-back wins against the Lions during the last season’s campaign.
Team News
Sensational attacker Bernard Kesse is still nursing the injury he sustained in September, and his return date remains unknown.
They will be relying on Nigerian international Lucky Nwafor, who scored four goals in the FA Cup round of 64 game against Agbozume Weavers, to lead the upfront with Blessing Asuman Dankwah and Edmond Amakye.
With Nations FC, there is no injury situation in camp as the team has been handed a massive boost with the return of their quartet, namely Abdul Karim, Razak Simpson, Kofi Mensah, and Faisal Charwetey, who were in Black Galaxies camp for preparations ahead of the 2024 CHAN Qualifiers against Nigeria.
